The Temperament and Facts about the Schipperke Chihuahua
One of the most fascinating dogs is the schipperke chihuahua. This dog is considered an “all around dog” as it has a little bit of temperament in it from all dog breeds. It is a herding dog with a strong desire to hunt and guard. It is independent making it come off as aloof to strangers. It is very stubborn. It is a very curious dog always digging into everything requiring a lot of stimulation, attention, and interaction. It is also very friendly and loyal being a great bedside companion to someone who is sick and great around children.
A dog that loves to please its owner, schipperke chihuahuas are very obedient and learn commands quickly. They usually understand new commands after only 5-15 times of saying them and 85% of the time they respond to commands the first time you say them. On the other hand, they are not always well behaved and good with commands as they are very mischievous. They know what their owner is saying, but sometimes choose to ignore those commands and get into trouble instead. They have been given the nickname “Tazmanian Black Devil” because when bored and left unattended, they often damage property and cause chaos. It takes a very strong and patient owner to train them. They only damage things and cause chaos when not being paid attention to; it is their way of showing that they want your attention. Give them the time and attention they need and they are well behaved dogs with great temperaments.
Another interesting fact about the schipperke chihuahua is that they are very accepting of cats and other dogs which is unusual. They are also loyal to a fault making sure to bark and stand up to any intruder that would dare harm its owner. They are great family dogs as their loyalty is even stronger when children are in the picture. The protectiveness is a double-edged sword though as it can get out of control. Once the dog barks to alert you of danger, it needs to be told enough it enough and to cool it. If you aren’t firm about that, they will learn to become guard dogs in the extreme and have been known to even bite someone they don’t know. When they are given rules to follow, these traits don’t occur and they learn that you are in control and they are not.
